The Armed Service Vocational Aptitude
Battery Test (ASVAB)
-
The ASVAB test is used by all branches of the military as an entrance
examination.
-
The test consists of eleven subtests or
areas of concentration
-
Once the test is completed, the test is computer graded and broken into
what is called line
scores.
-
The Army National Guard, US Army and Army Reserve all use the same system.
-
Currently the National Guard requires an
Armed Forces Qualifying Test (AFQT) score of 31% or higher to enlist
-
If you have a GED
(No GED?) and can score 31% (AFQT) or better you can enlist into the
Tennessee National Guard.
Other
standards for mos's/ jobs
When you see or hear what you can get from a branch of service example, cash
bonuses, extra college money. When the advertisement or recruiter says "If Qualified". In almost all cases, this test is the qualifying part.
Understand! You may have to meet other qualifications on qualifying for a job / MOS.
If you have a qualifying line score / score's on the test for your job / MOS.
You may also have to meet other standards for enlistment into that job / MOS,
career field. This may include, physical, moral, gender, standards just to name a few.
Check with your recruiter to see if
you have any additional standards to meet. Important: Do not wait till you get to the Military Entrance Processing Station
(MEPS) to find this information out. If for some reason your recruiter can not
provide this information. Look for another recruiter. Visit trainability for additional
information.
ASVAB information
- Just because you take the test does not mean your obligated to join any branch of the U.S.
Armed Forces.
- You do not pay any money to take the test.
- The test last around 3.5 hours.
- The test is scored from 0-99%. An AFQT score of 31% is the lowest passing
score (ARNG). The highest you can score is 99%
- You can re-take the test after thirty calendar days.
- All branches of the U.S. Armed Forces use the test to find out what jobs /
MOS's you qualify for. However, qualifying scores for jobs / MOS's are
different for each branch. You should be able to find out from a recruiter if your qualified for
your job / MOS.
- Your AFQT only is good for passing the ASVAB and level of benefits.
(example: 50% or better) The AFQT does not alone qualify you for your MOS/ job.
- There is a limit on how many times you can re-test. Check with a
recruiter
on the number of times.
- The general rule for the test is the higher you score the more jobs /
MOS's your qualified for. The lower the score the less amount of jobs. So it is best that you do as well as
you can on the test.
- Test scores is good for two years.
- All most all recruiters have a pre-test program on a lap top computer. It
is best to pre-test before taking the test.
- The over all score (AFQT %) comes from the math and English sections of
the test, no other parts of the test.
- There are eleven sections on the test. All sections are timed.
- The test is given at the National Guard Armory every *Monday night. The
test starts at 6:00 p.m. sharp and ends around 9:30 p.m. Bring some sort of
picture I.D if you have it. However, a picture I.D. is not necessary to take
the test.
- You must contact a
recruiter to
schedule the test.
